Here at the Clevenger law firm, we want you to know more about your lawyer as a person, rather than some drone in a suit. We believe in personalized service, with someone you know, so as to better serve your needs. Contrary to the lawyer jokes circulating (and Mark has his favorites), lawyers are people, with both professional qualifications and personal interests. This page is designed to let you get to know Mark Clevenger as a person, not just as a lawyer. This is Mark’s biographical statement.
I was born and raised in Wichita, KS. I attended Wichita State University, earning both a B.A. and M.A. in Political Science. I graduated from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis in 1979, and have been in practice since passing the bar that summer.

In my over 25 years of practice, I have engaged in many forms of practice. I have been associated with 2 law firms, one in St. Louis, and one in Colorado. For 9 years, I served as Assistant General Counsel and Midwest General Counsel of the National Association of Government Employees, a large nation-wide government employees union. For 14 of my 25 years of practice I have been a solo practitioner, either in an office by myself or office sharing with others. I have never been interested in practicing law in a large, impersonal firm; by doing that, you can’t focus as immediately on your clients.
My practice is limited to two areas Social Security disability, and non-contested family law matters. I have also been trained as a professional mediator, and own and operate New West Mediation Services, Inc. This allows me to handle family law situations either as the attorney, to guide you through the steps, through my law practice, or to help clients who want to represent themselves mediate an agreement.
In addition to my busy law and mediation practice, I am very involved in the cultural arts scene in Longmont and Boulder County. My wife is the Director of the Longmont Museum and Cultural Center, and I have been very active in Museum activities since we moved to Longmont in late 2000. I am also a professional fine art photographer, operating as Marklight Photography. I work mainly in landscapes and abstracts. I am a founding member of the Longmont Photo Salon, Inc. I have served on the board of directors (including a term as president) of the Longmont Council for the Arts. I am a member of the Muse Gallery, a non-profit co-op gallery in Longmont, and my work can be seen there regularly.
I am also involved in many environmental organizations, and am working to use my photography as a means of political education. My wife and I are avid campers and hikers, particularly in southern Utah. We are staunch supporters of environmental causes.
We are the proud parents (guardians, slaves) of four cats.
